2019 NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Announced

      On Sunday, May 19, 2019, one studentathlete from Arthur L. Johnson High School was designated as the recipient of the New Jersey State Interscholastic AthleticAssociation’s Scholar Athlete Award. The NJSIAA is an organization run by thestate of New Jersey,who has a great tradition of honoring student athletes at a state wide functioncalled the Scholar Athlete Luncheon. Over the years the luncheon, organized and run bythe NJSIAA, has grown in size and has given out hundreds of thousands ofdollars in scholarship money.

     These awards, which are presented to onestudent athlete from each school in the state, celebrate not only the athleticsuccesses of our high school athletes on the fields, courts, and mats, buthonors the countless hours that they spend in the classroom as well.

     Arthur L. JohnsonSenior Student Athlete Victoria Zatko was honored as the recipient fromArthur L. Johnson High School in Clark.Victoria had a stellar career at Arthur L. Johnson High School participating insoftball all four years of her high school career. As a senior, Victoria accomplishedmany milestones, including attaining her 100th career hit for theCrusaders, as well as being a stellar student throughout her time at Arthur L. Johnson High School.She will continue playing softball next spring at LaSalle University.


     Gus Kalikas, Athletic Director at Arthur L. Johnson High School, had this to say about the event. “Victoriawas an integral part of the success of our athletic programs at Arthur L.Johnson High School, allowing us to have success throughout her career on the softballdiamond. More importantly, she has been a model student athlete that did thingsthe right way both in athletics and in the classroom. She is truly deserving ofbeing named our recipient of the NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Award, and we wish herwell as she embarks on her college career.
