5th Annual Crusader Classic Shot Put Meet A Huge Success

On Thursday, January 10, 2019,Arthur L. Johnson High School held the 5thAnnual Crusader Classic Shot Put Meet. The meet allowed throwers from allover Union County and the State of New Jersey to throw in preparation for theupcoming NJSIAA Championships.

The schools participatingincluded: Arthur L.Johnson High School, Cranford High School, Elizabeth High School, Gill St.Bernard High School, Governor Livingston High School, Kent Place High School, OratoryPrep High School, Linden High School, Summit High School, Union High School, UnionCatholic High School, and Westfield High School.

                Medalswere awarded to the top six finishers in the following divisions: Freshman Boysand Girls; Sophomore Boys and Girls, Junior Boys and Girls; and Senior Boys andGirls. Over 140 student athletes participated in the event.

               Arthur L. Johnson High SchoolAssistant Track and Field Coach Anthony DelConte organized and ran the meet.Coach DelConte stated, “This was a greatnight as it allowed all of our throwers the chance to compete a few days beforethe championship meets so the throwers could hone their skills and get a fewmore throws in. Many of our throwers threw personal bests and everyone seemedto enjoy the event. We hope to be able to continue this event for throwers throughoutUnion County and the State as well.”

                Head Track and Field Coach Christopher Marcin added, “We enjoy having throwers from all over thestate come and compete in our gym. The throwers compete, show greatcamaraderie, and get better by pushing each other in a great atmosphere for theshot put. We are looking forward to continuing this event for many years.”

                The Crusader Classic will conclude this year’sschedule with its last meet of the season on January 22, 2019.
