Johnson Crusaders Fall Athletic Awards

On Tuesday, November 27, 2018, the Arthur L. Johnson Athletic Department held their 2017Fall Athletic Awards. The evening, sponsored by the Crusader Athletic BoosterClub, was held in the Arthur L. Johnson Auditorium.

 

All the Fall Athletic Teams and their seasons werehighlighted by their coaches while handing out letters and awards to thestudent athletes. Over 220 varsity athletic letters were handed out throughoutthe evening, as participation in athletics at Arthur L. Johnson High School continues to grow.

 

The program continued with the Student Athlete Award, whichwas presented by the Principal of Arthur L. Johnson High School, Mrs. JenniferFeeley. The Student Athlete Award is given out each athletic season to astudent athlete that is not only a champion on the field, but in the classroomas well. The 2018 Fall Student Athleteaward recipient was Kaylee Parkhill,with a 4.4791 G.P.A.

 

In addition, the CrusaderG.P.A. Challenge was awarded to the team that finishes with the highestoverall G.P.A. amongst athletic teams for the fall season. The recipients were presentedwith certificates, will have their team memorialized on a plaque, and will beinvited for a “Breakfast with the A.D.”to celebrate their actions both in the classrooms and on the fields. The Field Hockey Team, with a G.P.A. of4.0198, was the 2018 Fall G.P.A. Challenge winner. Members of the Field HockeyTeam include: Alyssa Colicchio, Nina Couzzi, Sabrina Diwane, VictoriaMarano, Kaylee Parkhill, Alley Renda, Amanda Zambrana, Heidi Compton, EmmaHilton, Nicole Randazza, Tara Starita, Taylor Turek, Jordyn Walsh, Devyn Calas,Gianna Caldiero, Gia Colicchio, Michelle Kukan, Courtney Marano, VictoriaVenezio, Peyton Collings and Tatum Dobbins.

           

The Best TeammateAward will be given out seasonally to one member from each athletic teamthat best fits the characteristics of a good teammate. The individuals thatreceive these awards exhibit upbeat attitudes and outstanding character. Theyhelped influence the team’s culture in a positive manner, while alwayssupporting teammates and promoting team unity. The Best Teammate Award Winners were: Cross Country – Tyree Worobetz, Field Hockey – Sabrina Diwane, Football – Federico Veltre, Gymnastics – Nicalina DelRosario, Boys’ Soccer – Nicholas McCaffery,Girls’ Soccer – NadiaKolfenbach, Girls’ Tennis – BrookeGallo, Volleyball – Isabella Venezio,and Cheerleading – Victoria Torres.

 

The evening culminated with the announcement of the Team Most Valuable Players. The MVPswere: Cross Country – Steven Kehrle, Field Hockey – Amanda Zambrana, Football – Sebastian Iakouchevitch, Gymnastics – Emi Budnik, Boys’ Soccer – Andrew Kehrle,Girls’ Soccer – CeceliaPuentes, Girls’ Tennis – AlexandraBowen, Volleyball – Erin Heaning,and Cheerleading – Julianna Rizzuto. We also handed out the BestTeammate Award (BTA).


Athletic Director Gus Kalikas, had this to say about theevent: “Once again, our Fall Athletic AwardsProgram was a successful evening as it allows the District, Administration, andCoaches the opportunity to acknowledge a wonderful Fall Sports Season as wellas recognize both student athletes and their parents alike for all that theyhave accomplished this past fall athletic season.”
