2017 Fall Athletic Awards

On Tuesday, November 28, 2017, the Arthur L. Johnson Athletic Department heldtheir 2017 Fall Athletic Awards. The evening, sponsored by the CrusaderAthletic Booster Club, was held in the Arthur L. Johnson Auditorium.

 

All the Fall Athletic Teams and their seasons werehighlighted by their coaches while handing out letters and awards to thestudent athletes. Over 200 varsity athletic letters were handed out throughoutthe evening, as participation in athletics at Arthur L. Johnson High School continues to grow.

 

The program continued with the Student Athlete Award, whichwas presented by the Principal of Arthur L. Johnson High School, Mrs. JenniferFeeley. The Student Athlete Award is given out each athletic season to astudent athlete that is not only a champion on the field, but in the classroomas well. The 2017 Fall Student Athleteaward recipient was Gregory Zukowski,with a 4.625 G.P.A.

 

In addition, the CrusaderG.P.A. Challenge was awarded to the team that finishes with the highestoverall G.P.A. amongst athletic teams for the fall season. The recipients werepresented with certificates, will have their team memorialized on a plaque, andwill be invited for a “Breakfast with theA.D.” to celebrate their actions both in the classrooms and on the fields. The Gymnastics Team, with a G.P.A. of3.9678, was the Fall 2017 winner. Members of the Gymnastics Team include: AngelaPieros, Morgan Thomas, Lindsay Becker, Nicalina DelRosario, Kaitlyn King,Christina Sheafer, and Emi Budnik.

                                               

The Best Teammate Awardwill be given out seasonally to one member from each athletic team that bestfits the characteristics of a good teammate. The individuals that receive theseawards exhibit upbeat attitudes and outstanding character. They helpedinfluence the team’s culture in a positive manner, while always supportingteammates and promoting team unity. The BestTeammate Award Winners were: Cross Country (Boys/Girls) – Tyler Bohm, Field Hockey – Amy Wysocki, Football – Michael Casalino, Gymnastics – Kaitlyn King, Boys’ Soccer – Ross Wildes,Girls’ Soccer – LilyGull, Girls’ Tennis – AmandaNunes, Volleyball – Tara Jacobsen,and Cheerleading – Chloe Hessler.

 

The evening culminated with the announcement of the Team Most Valuable Players. The MVPswere: Cross Country (Boys) – Tyler Moreira, Cross Country (Girls) – Lindsey Hofschneider, Field Hockey – Jessica Lopez, Football – Joe Turek, Gymnastics – Angela Pieros, Boys’ Soccer – Matthew Vigliotti,Girls’ Soccer – KristinaPalella, Girls’ Tennis – SagaElsekhely, Volleyball – VictoriaGulbin, and Cheerleading – Emily DeLima.

 

Athletic Director Gus Kalikas, had this to say about theevent: “Once again, our Fall Athletic AwardsProgram was a successful evening as it allows the District, Administration, andCoaches the opportunity to acknowledge a wonderful Fall Sports Season as wellas recognize both student athletes and their parents alike for all that theyhave accomplished this past fall athletic season.”
