Weisensee's Five Hits Lead MU Past Rutgers-Camden

Steve Weisensee had five hits and drove in three runs and Cole Bixler homered and had three RBI to lead the Misericordia University baseball team to a 15-6 win over Rutgers-Camden, Sundayafternoon at Tambur Field.

Santo Guinta added a two-run homer and Kenny Jarema and Tyler Holzapfel both had two hits.

James Magaldi worked a scoreless inning of relief to earn his first collegiate win.  Steve PabonElliot Forde and Mike Blazaskie combined for four shutout innings in relief.

Trailing 6-5, the Cougars went ahead with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and broke the game open with six runs in the eighth.

The Scarlet Raptors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second and the Cougars got it back in their half of the frame.  After DeCotiis was hit a by pitch, Weisensee sliced a double down the left field line with DeCotiis advancing on the hit and coming home on a throwing error.

Rutgers-Camden took advantage of two MU errors to go back in front 4-1 in the top of the third, but the Cougars responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning.

Brett Davis drew a one-out walk and Jarema and Holzapfel both singled to load the bases.  DeCotiis lofted a sacrifice to left and Weisensee lined a single back through the middle to get MU within a run.  Bixler laced a two-out single to right center to put MU in front, 5-4.

The Scarlet Raptors took their final lead with two runs in the top of the fourth.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth, Holzapfel and DeCotiis were both hit by a pitch and Weisensee lined a single off the pitcher's glove to load the bases.  Two wild pitches put Misericordia in front for good, 7-6.

The Cougars put the game away with six runs in the seventh.  Jarema led off with a liner to left and moved up on Holzapfel's line drive to right field.  Weisensee singled inside the first base bag and Bixler followed with a three-run homer to left to give MU an 11-6 lead.  Abate lined a single to left field and Guinta followed with a two-run homer to left field.

Misericordia, 24-11, will visit Keystone, Monday at 3:30.
