To Be A Crusader
Steve Shohfi grew up in Clark watching his older brothers play football for Johnson and dreaming of the day he would be able to take the field himself and be called a Crusader.
He did play four seasons for Johnson and was co-captain of the '72 Crusaders. He went on to play football at Kean University (then Newark State College). After graduation "Shof" returned to Johnson as a Physical Education Teacher, Assistant Football Coach, and Head Lacrosse Coach. He stayed with the football program for 21 seasons as the offensive and defensive line coach. One of his players during that time was current Arthur L. Johnson Athletic Director, Gus Kalikas.
"Shof's" hobby has always been writing and recording songs and "To Be A Crusader" was written as a homage to his playing days at Johnson. The song was recorded with the assistance of record producer, musical whiz and good friend, John Korba.
Steve Shohfi currently teachers at David Brearley High School and he is also an Adjunct Professor at Kean University. He resides in Lavallette with his wife Jami and his daughters, Jessica and Sarah. He still believes there is nothing better than High School Football.
